Welcome - I’m glad you’re here.

You may be coming to therapy with a clear sense of what you want to work on, or simply with a feeling that something doesn’t quite sit right. Reaching out for support can feel like a significant step.

I’m Jo Walker, a trauma-informed counsellor with a humanistic, person-centred foundation. I work across specialist trauma services and private practice, offering counselling both online and in person.

I aim to offer a grounded, respectful and collaborative space where you can explore what has brought you here at a pace that feels right for you.

Therapy for safety belonging and connection

I offer a collaborative, relational approach to therapy, with careful attention to safety, pacing and the therapeutic relationship. I aim to offer a space where you can feel met, held safe, and supported to explore what’s brought you to therapy in a way that feels manageable.

You can find out more about my approach through Work with me in Bristol or Work with me online.

Alongside my private practice, I have worked in senior leadership and clinical roles within trauma-informed, intersectional therapy services. I was previously a Director at
NAOS, a specialist trauma-informed therapy service. I currently work with survivors of sexual violence through New Pathways, and with Trauma Foundation South West.

“Rarely, if ever, are any of us healed in isolation. Healing is an act of communion.” - Bell Hooks

I work with adults experiencing a range of difficulties, including:

  • Trauma, including sexual violence, abuse, and relational or developmental trauma

  • Anxiety, stress, and emotional overwhelm

  • Low self-worth, shame, and self-criticism

  • Relationship difficulties

  • Life transitions, loss, and periods of change

I also have a particular interest in supporting people navigating childlessness, pregnancy loss, and fertility-related issues, as well as lives and relationships that sit outside more conventional family structures.

Alongside this, I offer support to parents and carers of children who have experienced relational or developmental trauma, including those parenting adopted, fostered, or kinship children. This work is informed by principles of therapeutic parenting and specialist training in this area.

My standard fee is £55 per session. I also reserve a small number of lower-fee spaces for people in receipt of specific benefits, as part of my commitment to accessibility and social justice. If cost is something you’re unsure about, you’re welcome to raise this during an initial consultation.
